Eligibility to access maternity services

All women must have a valid Medicare number to access maternity services as a public or private patient at Armadale Hospital. You will be asked for your Medicare card to validate the number.

If you do not have a valid Medicare number, please discuss with your GP about options to deliver your baby at a private maternity hospital in WA.

Emergency and urgent treatment

We will provide emergency care and urgent treatment to all patients irrespective of Medicare eligibility. However, patients without a valid Medicare number will receive an invoice from the hospital for any urgent care services provided.

Postcode allocations

Armadale Hospital is now welcoming additional maternity patients and providing care as close to home as possible, as part of WA Health’s response to the COVID pandemic.

Patients requiring public maternity services from local postcodes 6057, 6058, 6105, 6106 and 6107 will be offered referrals to Armadale Health Service where patients can expect accessible, integrated and culturally appropriate care including support for Birthing on Country through the Boodjari Yorgas Midwifery Group Practice and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) patients.

Postcodes that fall within the usual Armadale Hospital catchment area include: 6107 to 6112, 6121 to 6126 and 6147.

Reciprocal Health Care Agreements

The Australian Government has signed Reciprocal Health Care Agreements with the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Norway, Slovenia, Malta and Italy. These agreements entitle you to some subsidised health services for essential medical treatment while visiting Australia. These agreements exclude anyone who comes to Australia for the sole purpose of having their child delivered here.
