Social Work

Our social workers provide a range of service to patients, families and any person who experiences social and emotional difficulties related to their acute admission or health condition/chronic illness.

All of our social workers are trained professionals who have completed a university degree and are guided by the Australian Association of Social Workers' Code of Ethics (external site). Social work practice is underpinned by the principles of social justice, compassion and self determination.

We can assist you with:

  • assessment of your current social situation, your needs and wishes and work with you and the multidisciplinary team in discharge planning, arranging family meetings, provision of information and linking you with community support services
  • short term counselling for patients and carers on grief and loss, relationships and other emotional factors
  • assistance with financial and legal issues
  • advocacy
  • education and information

The service is available during normal working hours to inpatients and to some outpatient services including Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), community rehabilitation and antenatal care.

Our areas of specialty include:

  • Emergency department
  • General medical wards and Acute Medical Unit
  • Aged Care and Rehabilitation (including ACAT)
  • Maternity and antenatal care
  • paediatrics
  • dialysis unit
  • mental health
