Paediatrics and Neonates

Our dedicated 10-bed paediatric ward and Level 2A neonatal unit provides quality health services for infants and children up to the age of 16 years who require medical and surgical management and care.

Paediatricians provide a 24-hour service and our nursing staff are specifically trained to look after your child's needs.

Patients are referred from paediatricians, general practitioners (GPs) and the hospital's Emergency Department.

Children who stay overnight are usually visited daily by their doctor and discussions about treatment and care of your child are made during these visits.

Visiting restrictions

Paediatric ward (Campbell Ward)

The paediatric ward’s visiting hours are 8.00am to 1.00pm and 3.00pm to 8.00pm every day. Patient rest period is between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.

Please note that access to the paediatric ward is restricted after 4.30 pm each day.

Neonatal unit

Due to limited space and infection control, only the parents of babies are permitted into the neonatal unit and may visit at any time.

Any parent with a cough, cold or runny nose, viral illness or infectious disease must not enter the nursery.

Under certain circumstances (i.e. medical emergency of another infant) you may be asked to leave or not enter the nursery.

Relatives and siblings may be able to view your baby through the unit’s window and visiting times are from 8.00am to 1.00pm and 3.00pm to 8.00pm.

Paediatric outpatient clinics

Our paediatric outpatient clinics provide a comprehensive service to children requiring outpatient care including general medical, endocrinology and nurse led daytime bowel and bladder issues.

These clinics are booked up three months in advance.

AA referral from a general practitioner (GP) through the Department of Health's Central Referral Service (external site) or the emergency department is required in order to attend these clinics.
