Mental Health Emergency Response Line

The Mental Health Emergency Response Line (MHERL) (external site) provides a rapid response service to mental health emergencies across the metropolitan area 24/7.
Calls to the emergency response line during business hours (8.30am to 4.15pm) will be referred to the local area mental health service.
Calls to the emergency response line after business hours (4.15pm to 8.30am) will be referred to local public mental health services that provide after-hours assessment and specialist intervention for people experiencing a mental health emergency.
Who can use the MHERL?
This service can be used by people involved in a mental health emergency in the community including:
- individuals who feel that they require urgent assistance
- families or carers of those with a mental illness
- members of the general public who witness a mental health crisis and require assistance
- health professionals
- community welfare service providers.
