New heatwave warning system launched
The new heatwave warning system is now live, alongside refreshed consumer information on how to stay safe before, during and after a heatwave.
The new system will align with bushfire warning messaging to provide consistency and clarity for Western Australians. These are broken down into 3 phases – ‘advice’, ‘watch and act’ and ‘emergency warning’.
Heatwave alerts in WA will be broadcast on the following channels:
There will typically be up to 4 days warning leading up to a heatwave, and it is important that all health professionals are equipped to provide accurate information to the community.
The alert system will direct affected community members to newly revised health advice on HealthyWA. Health practitioners and organisations are encouraged to share these resources on their channels in the lead-up to and during heatwave incidents.
