Adding colour and calm to Leschen

July 31, 2017

The quiet room in the Leschen mental health unit at Armadale Health Service (AHS) recently received a new lease of life thanks to the generosity of Garry Bowe.

A chaplain at AHS, Garry said he wanted to do something positive for the hospital on behalf of his church.

He approached Nurse Unit Manager Caroline Dyer who asked if he could transform the quiet room into a calming space.

"My daughter Teagan is quite artistic so I recruited her to paint the walls and a mural around the doorway" Garry said. "With the help of Gracey from Art v Depression, who offered to collaborate with my daughter, I think the result has been really good."

Caroline said the artwork has had a positive effect on patients.

"The paintings are bright yet calming and have made the quiet room a much more relaxing space to be in," she said.

"We appreciate the work Garry has put into improving this space for our patients."
