Record births in 24 hours

April 5, 2017

There was no time for a break in the maternity unit on Monday 20 March, with the team safely delivering 18 babies in 22 hours. Between 3.50am and 1.22am the following morning, the team broke their previous record of 16 births in a 24 hour timeframe.

Clinical Midwife Consultant Robyn Rigby said that the teamwork and cohesion of all staff involved made the influx of births an achievable outcome for the team.

“We had extra staff come in to help and every single person involved went above and beyond to ensure good experiences for mum and baby,” she said.

Consultant and Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dr Sangeeta Malla Bhat thanked all involved, expressing her gratitude to the team.

“Well done everyone, proud to be part of team maternity AHS. It is a great achievement to be spot on without any complications or compromise of care,” she said.
