Armadale Health Service (AHS) occupational therapists have a new and improved van to transport aids, equipment, wheelchairs and hoists to their regular home-visit appointments.

Previously, the team were required to manually push heavy equipment up a steep gradient ramp into the van. The new van is equipped with an electrically-operated rear tail lift which will make the process far more effective and safe.

Senior Occupational Therapist Kim Johnson said the team was very excited with the new vehicle.

“We received the van during Occupational Therapy Week, which was a pleasant coincidence,” Kim said. “The tail lift has the capacity to hold up to 500kg which means we can stand on the lift and raise the wheelchairs and other equipment into the van, eliminating the need to lift heavy equipment and the high step into the van.”

“The previous vans have provided many years of service so we look forward to the added advantage this van will provide us with for many years to come.”
